Thanks Yorkie, may just try that.  Have some in Mum's greenhouse (planted) and they seem to be marginally better.  May look for something closer to a cape gooseberry next year though.  The fruit are tasty but teeny.  :)

Beautiful Chrysalis!  :) I love the wicker. Just shows that you can have something productive but really lovely to look at too!  Do you find that you have less of a problem with the evil slimy things because of the gravel?

I've recently discovered red viened sorrell it's perennial and germinates easily from seed great as an edging for tubs and borders and doen't mind shade. Campanulas are nice in a salad and very pretty too. Huauzontle is a good cut and come again veg or salad and does't seem to be eaten by pigeons slugs ect.

 I wish! >:(

The little beggars hide in between the polypropylene bags and the baskets, under then, around the sides and in the plants....Last year wasn't bad at all, but my poor strawbs are suffering this year and the spuds are in such big containers (40cmx40x50 deep) that they can find all sorts of places to hide.
The gravel is great for avoiding waterlogged paths and we put weed suppressant membrane down first.

Don't tell my OH, but I give the Slimy Ones to the chooks when he's not around ;), but this year I've had to avoid that because we use pellets.
It helps deter carrot fly to have the baskets so tall, that's if you can get yours to germinate.  Fourth time lucky this week!

Yes, it's very pretty and easy to harvest.  We get something every day  :D (Sometimes it's not slugs )
