Hi Everyone.
Only been gardening a few years so not a newbie but still got alot to learn.
Bought some Red Onion sets at the end of last year (can't remember type) & put them straight in the garden, as per instruction on the packet but they did'nt say when they should be ready. Any idears ??

I usually harvest mine once the leaves or stalks whatever you call them go yellow.

When the stems bend over they are ready to lift and dry for storage. Do not expect them to store for very long. By late Autumn they will want to start growing again.

If you want some for the kitchen now you can pull a few. Try to use any that have produced flower stalks or have thick necks first.

There ready when big enough to use you don't have to wait until they fall over we've been using red and white onions for about 3 weeks now just lifting what we need leaving the rest to grow on.

Hiya. Many Thanks for the answers to my question. some of the onion tops have bent over but I thought that was because of the windy weather.
