Bird scaring CD's
« on: June 12, 2012, 11:53 »
I'm thinking of hanging up some CD's to scare off the pigeons on my allotment.  I'd like to know which artists they're most afraid of.  I was thinking along the lines of some really loud rap or hip hop.  However I've got a concern that they may not like classical or easy listening.  Any advice?

I hate pigeons and I hate funk so it makes perfect sense that the two go together.  Is this where the funky pigeon advert came from?

we get tax information from HMRC on disc from time to time into the office so I hang the superseded ones over the ponds to scare off the herons - they seem to work pretty well, must be more threatening than plain ones

I've got a stack of C.D.s care of the Maily Dail.  I attach them using heavy duty fishing line, I found normal string quickly tangled.  Cheers,    Tony.

Does this lark really work? Or is it just that people do it because other people do it?

The William Tell Overture - the thought of arrows might stop them coming too near ;)

I use lengths of old video tape cut to about two feet long four or six lengths then tied to a cane and just move them around the garden .this seems to work for me give it a try.

If you start playing the CD's the birds will think there is a party going on and eat your crops as party food.  And  the hanging CD's will act as strobe lights. Every bird in the neighbourhood will be attracted to the shindy, and if there are any slug pubs aruond, who knows what the results might be!
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

:D :D :D. This thread made me chuckle. A good way to start the day at 5.45 in the morning. X I did once catch a pigeon doing the moonwalk on my brassica bed. X
