Did you dib them into a nice deep hole?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Well, you should have had the same length of blanched leek as the depth of hole you dibbed.

You can increase this by earthing up, but I find there's not a lot wrong with actually eating some of the green bit!

Blindfolded, I bet you couldn't tell the difference!

I know of no one, personally, that earths up, I know some on here do, though. A 6"-'8" dibbed hole plus some green is fine with me.

I reckon most of the unblanched stem is just as good as the white, and at a guess a trimmed leek is only about half the size of the orginal plant with its leaves on.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

You could put toilet rolls above the soil to get more blanched stem.  I haven't tried this method though.

I cut mine a few inches up by the last leaf "y" junctions and use it all (loads of green)... in white sauce, stews and soups..

its just the type flump if you like the white you need to grow the blanch leek when there is plenty leaf above ground slip a 6" length of plastic downpipe over it then carry on with longer lengths as the shaft of the leek grows.Imust say i prefer the green rather than white it has more flavour, but each to our own!

I NEVER earth mine up cos I love the green bit!
