When is the best time to start in peat pots please

I checked the back of the seed packet yesterday and it stated May

I don't like peat pots  unless you keep the below soil level, and very wet, after planting out, the roots don't seem able to grow through them, despite what the blurb says.

Paper pots are better IMO and cheaper
