garlic sowing success
« on: April 08, 2012, 21:50 »
last week when we had the good weather i planted 3 rows of " marcos " garlic outside put potting compost in all rows and sowed garlic cloves  as per instructions 1" down and 4" between, all 33 plant,s are now up about an inch; will the tender new shoots cope with any late frost we might still get or do i need to protecc them at night with plastic? am going to really enjoy this crop and want them to be survivors so any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers jay  8)

Garlic is as tough as old boots and will take most things even a harsh winter will throw at it.

It will certainly stand the wimpish frosts we're getting now, unlike some plants.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You're doing the best thing though in asking, rather than stumbling blindly.

think it,s a little bit of both if i,m honest but more asking now than going ahead blind -- and to think i only found the site through googling a recipe for piccalilli i like to think i have come on leaps and bound,s with peoples help on here, and by the way i am now an experienced member with 3 gold stars -- dont want people thinking i actually know what i,m doing, that would give me and both them a false sense of security  :D

PS Did you ever make the piccalilli?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

That and the fact that the ones I've grown, despite being called "Russian Giant" have not lived up to their name.

Did I give something away there?
