not sleeping on perch??
« on: April 07, 2012, 21:36 »
So ive had my chooks since tuesday and im loving it  :) Im a bit worried though as they dont seem to sleep on there perch at night. they don't go in the nesting boxes as they are clean every morning but when i peek in they are all snuggled in the corner of the coop rather than on the perch. Is it ok that they do this as long as they are not in the nesting box or should i encourage them onto the perch? It is the right size and the right distance from the wall so i don't see why they wouldn't use it. I have to say they do look pretty cute and happy all snugged up in the corner

Lift them onto it, if they're not used to it they won't know what its for.

At the moment mine are 50/50 - but mainly because my old blackstar patrols the perch and refuses to let them stay.

Mine did that for the first 4 weeks and then went onto the perches by themselves.
Maybe they feel safer where they are for now until they have settled in properly and got used to their new surroundings

If you do it gentle in the dark when they're half a sleep they should get the hang of it pretty quickly.
