Spuds in old tyres?
« on: April 05, 2012, 07:36 »
I have the offer of some old car tyres and was wondering about using them to grow spuds in.
On the 'acres' I have a sizable block of concrete on which I could stack at least 4 towers of tyres.
From what I understand you set 2 or 3 potatoes in one tyre in a mixture of peat and soil and as they sprout and grow you add tyres and soil rather than earthing them up.

Anyone tried this?
Taken over neglected veg garden at new home. Enemy number 1 Ground Elder. Then there is the furry terror - bunnies - to contend with!
Made a start have beds established but moved in too late for serious planting. We shall see what 2015 brings.
