Try this, Pamela:

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=89003.0

I asked the question a few months ago.

Since then I've made a couple of 100 for church coffee mornings.

Some one was so impressed they gave me a tenner for a dozen of them! (For church funds).

Works a treat in a bread machine.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I made a batch of buns, I say buns, I forgot to put the spice in! Just eaten one, lovely.

I have a batch of hot crossed buns prooving, soon to be baked.  If they turn out as good as the buns I will be pleased.

I have  made a wholemeal loaf too, a busy morning :D

I am going to make hot crossed buns for the neighbours later on in the week.  Thanks for the recipe.

Pamela

Made these today, using breadmaker to make the dough, it looked as if it would make a lovely fruit bread too, so might try that.
Baked them after the second prove, I made double glaze as i don't have a brush, and made 10 medium buns, used mulled wine spice powder which seemed to work well, so sort of Christmas uns  :D

I have just made another dozen from your recipe  DD, and I have another lot from a different recipe, one with plain flour and the other strong flour.....  Just eaten one of the plain flour ones, very light :D  Trouble is, they are too nice

I will try making a batch with wholemeal flour next time.

It's not my recipe!

It was given to me by mumofstig and must be responsible for those extra inches!  >:(

Right, Mumofstig shall be blamed then  :tongue2:  I can report back there was no difference, except the 2nd lot got cooked at a slightly higher heat, and almost burnt   But apart from that, there was no difference.  Anyone want a hot cross bun?  I have plenty here. (it has been a dreary day)

it's not my fault gov!

I didn't make you bake or eat them  :tongue2:

All I need now is a recipe for a proper French style open topped apple tart the one that tastes slightly of almonds ..I always used to bring them back from Calais when there were all those cross channel foot passenger tickets for £1 in the sun! Wow years ago now!  ::)  :D

Been looking for the recipe ever since  :(

This is the latest offering - just out.

This is actually the first batch I've done with crosses as by the book, hot cross buns are not eaten until Easter. The excuse is that I needed to test them before Easter Saturday coffee morning.

Perhaps a bit of a thicker cross, but apart from that, quite pleased with them.

hi DD im interested in making hot cross buns too, now this may sound like a silly question but bare with me - on the recipe it says plain flour, i presume you use strong white bread flour?

Edit spelling of "flour" for search purposes.
