advice with a Honey peach tree
« on: March 18, 2012, 17:26 »
just bought one of these and considering planting in the allotment.  I live in the south east.  My question is should i take a chance with planting in the allotment or would it do better in the garden where it would have more protection from the elements but be more shaded.  Would it need protection from frosts in the Winter or is it quite a hardy variety.  Would appreciate some advice or if anyone has any knowledge/experience with this variety.

Thanks

The fruits are very thin skinned and easily damaged, as well as being very large

If it was me, I would try to find a spot in the garden (even if in a large pot) rather than at the plot.

Wind is one of the peach tree's worse enemy. I grow several varieties in my sheltered town garden, but friends nearby cannot because their properties are so exposed to winds.

they can take a bit of shade, but will need a bit longer for fruit to redden and mature.

I have a peach tree at the allotment, I don't protect it over winter and it's doing great, had some fantastic peaches on it last year, taste amazing. My mum has one in a pot and although it did great last year, this year it only has 6 flowers on it

Honey peaches are white I think ---- but still would take longer to ripen without full sun no doubt  :)
