I planted some raspberries and they seem to be doing fine, should I put some mulch around them?

As long as the ground around them is nice and damp, they'll love mulch  :D

That's not being dim at all!

Have you any compost, a few mowings perhaps, anything to stop the grass growing too close, as the roots are pretty shallow? Try not to include any perennial weeds though, like docks, etc.

We've been weeding ours this week and the roots are just below the surface, so a good lump of nice composty stuff, even cardboard if you want (pretty ugly to look at though), will keep the moisture in and help the plants immensely!

Best of luck!

As Grster says, not dim  :D

I use old autumn leaves and lay them on about three inches thick every autumn., and I give them a feed of blood fish and bone at the same time .. not too late to do it now though.

The new shoots make their way up without any trouble. and it all helps keep the moisture in nicely.

Rasberries are 'edge of woodland' plants, so woudl naturally be mulched by leaves, grass etc

I've just finished mulching mine today, using a mix of well rotted manure and some old compost from growbags.

I too love old leaves for mulching, but I find they work far better if I shred them first (dry, of course). It takes a bit more time, but they rot down far more quickly than whole leaves.

I also add some rotted manure first, then the leaves. Really gives the raspberries a kick in the pants  ;)
