ground frozen -- too cold.....

you will not beat mother nature she will catch you out...

always read the seed packaging...

keep it organic and you will see the difference including taste......

Ah, but the seed packet will tell you to sow from, for example, February to June.

It doesn't say not to sow in frozen ground.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

That's why we are here :)

I would also add "NEVER dig frozen ground !

They do actually. Not verbatim, but will say: germination on 14-18C, for example. Of course, a lot of people do not seem to be bothering with reading this.

Just looked at a packet of Suttons F1 Brilliant Brussels.

Diagram days to sow March/April.

Instructions say prepared seed bed.

Nothing about temperature. At this rate it'll still be frozen in March, but it's OK to sow as the packet say so!

Good point, I really meant to say - honest - a good seed packet.

Anyway, it almost always snows when I'm sowing onion seed. That's all right, as long as they are in a tray.

I'll not put tomatoes into a heated greenhouse until well into April.

Mother Nature.......................
Here in Northampton we had the last frost of the winter in March, followed by a record breaking April for high temperatures. On the day in the first week of May that a friend of mine planted out all his tomatoes and beans we had, for a few hours only what can only be described as a "terrorist frost" where out of nowhere the temp fell to minus 6.
Patchy damage saw me lose beans and sweetcorn and me Red Duke of York's were very badly singed.
I'm going to take it easy this year and stick to packet advise!
Did the onion seeds to day - no plans to do anything else for a few weeks.

(Maybe the sweet peas and broad beans -  :) )

Terrorist Frost..They should be deported back to siberia. :D..Im gonna fleece everything in the tunnel once I've planted it up too. One of the RAF tomatoes i had did survive the frost last year only because there was a large weed growing right in front of it that must have protected it as the frost crept through the mesh of the polytunnel doors..Thats what has given me the thought of going for it now as long as i protect it until sometime in April...ill sow some more as a back up anyway.. 8)
