No, no and thrice no to cucumbers.

Way too early in my opinion, they can find enough excuses to pop their clogs without giving them more.

Where were you thinking of putting the plants? I've got a heated greenhouse to put mine in and they're not on the sowing list for another month.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Oh DD, I'm allashambles now! The tomato site said 6-8 weeks before last frost or a month earlier if sowing under cover (wibble) and my last frost is about late April. I was going to put  them under the growlamp and then in Mum's conservatory.
Cukes said from Feb on the packet so I thought they'd be about the same as the toms? More than happy to delay though if you think they'll snuffit? Don't want to waste them...

Cucumbers are not the easiest of things to grow. They are less tolerant of the cold and temperature variations than tomatoes, (I seem to recall they originate from India). So to give them the best chance, I'd hold back for a bit.

However, the choice is yours!

I'm more than happy to take your advice DD, I would much rather learn by your experience. I've grown them before but wasn't 'into' growing then and just flung them in but probably not 'till much later in the season. Many thanks.  :)

Im holding off until march/april to start sowing, they will all catch up im sure.

I fully agree Richy, I know its tempting to start sowing stuff early. Experience has taught me that you need to sit on your hands till March/April  ;) ;)
I used to work in a helium gas factory, but I walked out, no one talks to me like that.

I'm doing a gardening course at weekends and yesterday the teacher had us planting butternut squash seeds (Harrier) in pots to start off indoors on a windowsill.  It seems incredibly early to me to be planting squash but she's the expert :) She did say we wouldn't be thinking about planting them out until May though.

I've ordered seed potatoes from Thompson & Morgan but there's no sign of them yet, wish they'd hurry up.

It is early. Another 2 months for me.

That's 3 months you've got to keep them inside, they could be rather large by then!

Indeed - and I have two of them!

Still I suppose we don't use the spare room very often...

I have learned from experience  to resist the temptation of sowing certain crops too early.
I have found that later sowings not only catch up but have turned out better plants.
Boredom can often lead to regrettable actions!
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.
