All year round, really, like a hardy brassica crop.

You only need to find a good, not-keen-on-bolting variety with larger bulbs for this. These are now more widely available than a few years ago. I have only been growing the giant one for years, but anything that boasts bolt-resistance and a longer growing period should be OK.

I usually start sowing them in February, but this year they are past seed leaf stage now... whatever happens.
