worming chickens
« on: January 01, 2012, 18:35 »
Hi

I've had my chickens since May and treated their coop with Diatomaceus Earth following a really bad attack of red mite.  I've continued to use it in large quantities ever since ever since.
Would this be enough to act as a de wormer or should I be using something else as well.  If so have I left it abit late and would it be best to leave it until the spring

Thanks again for everyone's help being a new chicken owner and not knowing anyone else who keeps them I was over the moon to find this site :D :D :D

It doesn't matter what time of year you worm your hens but do it every six months and PLEASE, please, please...  use FLUBENVET !!!!

The frequency with which you worm depends on the environment of the chickens.

Lots of chickens in a small space who've been there for a long time - worm about 6 times per year.

A few chickens in a large space  who've not been there very long - worm about 2 times per year.
