Watered, watered and watered some more
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Yesterday I planted out my Toms, Butternut squashes, lettuce, French beans, beetroot and countless flowers. Only took 6 hours in the end (and I'm not bright red!)   :)
Paul, Andrew, Kevin, Galen - My parents got bored of normal names in the end!

First visit in 2 weeks.  Bindweed thriving.

Potatoes doing well, earthed up fed and watered.  Watered sweetcorn (all still alive) and leeks (mostly still alive). Planted our 3 caulis, optimistically.

Early morning visit today for watering, weeding and a bit of digging. Potatoes storming along: I took a chance on planting early in March and gave up earthing up three weeks ago. All, from second earlies to main crops, look healthy and are growing well, and deserving of water.

Spinach has recovered from the severe nibbling and attrition that our slimy friends gave it a few weeks back. I've planted a second, emergency row but hope it won't be needed now.

Peas and beans are finally beginning to behave as one would expect them to at the end of May: that is they are properly grown plants and starting to crane/climb as appropriate.

Finally, preparing a bed for courgettes and cucumbers that are coming on indoors.

More watering tomorrow.

Over the last 2 days;   Weeded all the beds,  cut the grass,  planted some calabrese, courgette and squash,  dug over a newish bed and planted with herbs, earthed up the potatoes and tied in the next line for the peas which are growing the DD way!

Put out peppers and chillies in pots to harden off. Planted out parsley. Harvested radishes, Pak Choi and spinach.. and watered. Looked at met forecast and worried about Thursdays day time temperature being the same as last nights!

I dont want this summer to end  8)

Potted on my squash and courgettes into bigger pots and put them out to begin hardening off today, along with all the beans, sweetcorn and tomatoes.
More soil sifting and weeding up at the plot.

My broad beans are no better - flowering at 6" high, due to extensive slug damage.  On the bright side the garlic and shallots are looking fantastic and the peas not too bad.
One of my Lady Christl potato plants has not come up and appears to have just a stem poking through with no leaves.  Rest OK.

Re-sowed the carrots, none of which came up from first sowing, beetroot - only 2 of them germinated, and chard - 1 of them.  Also more parsnips, although oddly 6 of them have germinated.  I put this down to the bad weather.

Planted out psb and Snowball cauliflowers.

We dug and marked out another bed today,so we now have one raised bed and two ground level beds.A friend gave us some Broccoli, beetroot, dwarf beans,a couple of tomato plants some marigolds and some Cantelope Melons. We planted the beans, broccoli and beetroot, and we bought the tomatos and melons home with us, we are planting the marigolds in the week but we dont know where yet.We haven't a clue what to do with the Melons yet.
We also discovered that we have a few potato plants coming up a couple of the late onion plants are growing and the lettuce is still going strong, its sooo exciting seeing things start to grow :D

I strimmed!  Yesterday I was tying the bean poles together, and I dropped my cherished old penknife.  Weeds so thick and overgrown that I couldn't find it!  So today I got the strimmer going and attacked weeds - and found the penknife!  Relief.  And I'm v glad to have started on the weeds.

I also earthed up potatoes and did a bit of hoeing.  And watered everything, of course.  I planted another load of runner beans and dwarf French beans in a tray back here in the garden.  The first lot have sprouted and will be planted out at the foot of the beanpoles later this week.

It's all happening - hope there's no frost to come!

Down to the plot in the mmorning I hope.
