We've plenty of mush 5 growing on our site, where ever there are wood chippings these seem to pop up when it cold and damp I just put my size 10 on them where ever I see them.

Slightly off topic but a friend of ours had just had a nice £500 vets bill, on Friday night she just started barking at thin air and acting strange so they took her to the emergency vet who decided she was hallucinating and gave them two options 1. Put her down there and then or 2. A night under observation, they obviously took option 2 and recieved the bill the next day.

She's fine now and all they can put it down to is her eating some sort of mushrooms when out for her evening walk!

Very good photographs there  :D

Mush 3 looks a bit like a wood blewit with that lovely shiny cap. Do they smell perfumy?

I didn't really get close enough for a smell also didn't want to pick them just incase. The pics came out well seen as they were taken on the blackberry

Before I say, please do not trust my ID on one photo -- I would need pics of the underside of the spores, stem top and base etc as well before I could be 99% certain!!

But... Mush 1 looks like Common Funnel Cap (edible sp)
Mush 2 one of the Paneolatus spp (not edible but not deady poisonous)
Mush 3 looks like Wood Blewit (edible sp)
         Mush 4 -- no idea ... sorry
Mush 5 one of the Mycena spp (not edible but not dealy poisonous)

Not a recommendation to eat any of them, remember!!!!

I've eaten a lot of Wood Blewits in my life. Pic 3 is definitely not a Wood Blewit. It looks like a Tricholomopis platyphylla to me.

Picture 1 is a butter cap, isn't it?
Thanks

Andy

Mush 1

Mush 2

Mush 4

Mush 5

Without actually seeing them and taking spore prints, identification is uncertain.

The first may be either Clitocybe rivulosa or Clitocybe dealbata, both are poisonous.  Could  possibly be honey fungus, which is edible, but best stay on the safe side.

The second is probably Deceiver, which is edible, but it may be something else and again, best avoided.

The third looks like a Blewit.  The gills should be a lilac colour if a Wood blewit and the spore print of both Wood and Field Blewit is pale pink.  Both are edible, but some people can be allergic to them.

The fourth may be a buttercap but this is uncertain.  Avoid.

The fifth is certainly a Mycena which is not toxic, but not edible, either.

That's the best I can do from the photos.  I would recommend Peter Jordan's The New Guide to Mushrooms for some excellent photographs of both edible and poisonous mushrooms and identification tips.  The book  does not cover the 'in-between' mushrooms which are not edible, but not toxic.

If in doubt, leave them alone.

Just had a quick flick no 3 is 100% NOT a wood blewit!!

I would recommend that whenever you are less than 100% sure (that doesnt include internet identification) DO NOT eat them.

sorry sunshine but what you said isnt right. The touch and smell mean nothing. I have felt mush with a lovely smell and touch that would cook well - killers!

Its all about 100% identification and u said "no 3 wood Blewit edible". Bud you have to be soooo careful with mushrooms and funghi and 1 wrong ID could kill you!l 99 % is not good enough!

Get a good book, find loads and enjoy the journey.

Happy days

Mike

PS Not only sunshine but anyone that identifies mushrooms/funghi without being 100%.

I did once see a mushroom/toadstool that looked like it had stepped straight off the screen of a Walt Disney. It was a perfect round globe, bright red, with perfect yellow spots on it. Anybody know what that is?

May I reiterate that any mushroom ID on this forum is opinion only and it is policy to never to advise on it's safety.  As has been said on previous posts, get the advice of an expert.
