Hi all,
As a new allotment holder, i'm looking at growing my own English Garlic, could you please tell me where the best suppliers are and reccomend any varities.
Thanks Dave.

Most good garden centres should or might have a few left. Can't remember the variety we're growing this year as I just grabbed a few from my local iron mongers

Also remember that garlic needs a cold spell to help them form cloves so for those of you growing modules over winter no need to coddle them, a unheated greenhouse/cold frame or just left outside in a sheltered spot will be fine.

I save some bulbs every year for planting. They were originally Spanish bulbs bought from the greengrocer for 30p but are now definitely British!
I'm also trying Music this year.
They're all in and this rain should get them rooting.

My first try at growing garlic last year was a failure. I've planted some more now but not sure if I've put them deep enough, they're just below the surface like onions is this ok?

Welcome to the forums!

Garlic is usually planted considerably deeper than that - it would be rude of me not to point you towards site owner John's instructions on this very site!  :)

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I planted out four varieties and elephant garlic all at the same time.  The thermidrome was through as green shoots in less than two weeks.  No sign of anything else yet.  So I guess it's a variety thing
