Hi
I have just joined the forum today, have six rare breeds, 4 are about 25 weeks old, expecting some eggs soon, two have got their bright red wattles and combs, and one keeps going up to nest boxes and making a bit of a noise so hopefully some eggs soon, will post some pictures when i work out how to!!

Welcome to the forum! Photos are compulsory and you'll soon be as mad as the rest of us!

It sounds as if eggs are imminent - when it's finally laid there will be a lot of noise coming from the coop so you'll definately know when the egg has arrived. Hens just love to announce when they've laid (and when they want to lay, when someone is in the nestbox they want to use...... :D).

Hey suzybat,

If you think the laying of the first egg is exciting wait till you hatch your first eggs that is even better :D
Hens are better than TV, I like to watch mine chase flies round the garden. They are addictive I got totally carried away hatching eggs this year dont know where I thought I was going to put them all. Then I agreed to hatch guinea fowl for a friend, god help me next year! lol

Thanks for the good wishes, not thought about hatching eggs yet, maybe I will get that bug in the future!!  I have a lacewing Orpington who loves flies, she does some fancy footwork and twirls getting flies, if im gardening then worms are on the agenda, my head chicken is a silver partridge bantam, very small but 'rules the roost'!
