I tried to grow swede last year and they never filled out at all just leaves. this year i do have limited sucsess but..... most have splits in them and  one must be 7 inches across but with splits dosent look very pretty

Azubah, I'll back him up on that - it was liquid fertilizer what done it!

It really is a good way to get them to reasonable size, well it has been this year anyway...

I sowed mine direct this year on my undug plot just using half inch deep John Innes on top of rock hard soil to put the seed in, I netted them with debris for a few months until established, I also did the same with Beetroot and they are both going well so far.

I am so jealous, NASH. Did you have a wet summer there? Perhaps it is the rain that gave you such good results?? Good soil too.

I will try harder with the feeding next year, growster.
