Thank you DD and everyone else for the heads up on TRG co  :D  Have added to my favourites as piddly little garlic cloves are my pet hate  :tongue2:

Has anyone grown the Pategonian Purple one they offer for planting next year?  I grew some pink garlic this Feb/March (just what I could get from work) and did quite well with it but theirs sounds better  :)

NN2Blue are the stem bulbils those things that bulge out in the stalk?  What do you do with these then?  Do you snap them off and plant them or something?

Good morning to God's Country from an ex-Ponthir man!
Yes, that's precisely what they are and they form on all hard neck varieties.
I harvested them when the stems withered and I also harvested the bulbs. Hundreds of them.
I grew them on two inches apart and some have formed roundils the size of small pickled onions. These will be planted "as normal" this year in a few weeks time and we'll see what happens. T'internet suggests they should be good as they originally developed out of the soil and should be disease free.
However, given it was originally "Waitrose finest" not sure what to expect.  :D
The bulbils are also good to chew for a controlled garlic "kick!"

Isn't that one to buy for eating, rather than for planting?

Thats also the way I read it. I don't suppose there would be a problem planting it though.

Going to miss the garlic next season  :(

Oh pants - I've re-read it and yes it does sound like garlic to eat  :tongue2:  The stuff I got from work was helpfully just labelled Pink Garlic  ::)  It did make much bigger cloves though than the stuff I planted the previous autumn, so may try it again next year. It's not just 'cos its pink - honest  ;)

Will get the autumn planting one TRG co have at least  :)

The old gardening book that I use as my bible says "plant on the shortest day and harvest on the longest day". I've always done that (or thereabouts) and it works for me.

Put them 1 inch deep and about 6 inches apart. When you dig them up, ease them out of the ground with a fork otherwise you'll damage the neck of the bulb and it will not store.

Just grabbed a bulb to use for tea. There's just 4 cloves in it and the one I've used weighs 28g on it's own. (That's "Music").
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
