how to store netting
« on: September 01, 2011, 19:18 »
hey all

i need to store some netting from some crops that have finished but not sure how best to do it.

theyre 6 x 4 metre netting

I was thinking, folding it half width ways and then use a bit of wood to wrap it around and then wrap some twine around it to keep it wrapped up

is this a good way or is there anything else I could do

thanks all

That's exactly how I do it, otherwise, it's a horrid tangle by spring if it gets moved for any reason during storage.

Also, label the size so there's no guessing come spring.

However you choose, please do make sure no animals can get tangled up in it  :)

I stuff mine in plastic carrier bags, each peice in a separate one. I have even been known to attach a label with the size on too.

I also do this with pieces of debris netting rolled up, so that I know which piece fits what (cover  abed or use for a tunnel cloche)

Sad but true

cor, you're much more organised than me. mine are rolled and tied, but by spring I have to unroll most of them to find the right size  :nowink:

Very interesting post this.

Netting deteriorates over the years, and while we are lucky to have a second shed, we don't really need it other that to store our netting, poles etc in the dry.

I reckon that with care, the netting you buy, pays for itself - if you look after it.

Sermon over...

I have a small storage container, the sort you get from Homebase.

I throw it in there, then jump up and down on it until I can get another length in.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

And then hang it up so the mice cannot get at it.

Nothing worse than a holey net ! :)

I used to roll mine up and put them in the opaque bags the shavings came in.  Ideal size for 2 or 3 nets at a time.
