What to store my horse poo in ?????
« on: June 29, 2009, 21:12 »
I have tryed searching through the forum but after typing manure in and getting 300 pages or so

Trawled through 25 pages and im a bit sick of that now  ::)

So what is the best thing to construct (im guessing out of pallets) i have read that you need to keep it warm to help it keep on rotting, it is well rotted already but i want it out of the plastic bags to save on space.

Thanks for any advice  :)

Make yourself a box with 4 pallets, fill with muck, then cover with black plastic sheeting and leave it to do it's work. The sheeting will keep the heat in and do the work for you  :)

mine goes into  a two pallet deep and 4 pallet long enclosure and is covered in a tarpaulin. the ends are removable to allow the tractor to manouver the trailer into the space and dump it off the road. worked wonders last year and ended up with brilliant crumbly and easy to spread manure this spring.  I construct a second narrower enclosure in the autum to take last years load to make way for this years (becoz after 10-12 months the manure is easier to fit into the smaller enclosure!).

Thanks very much for the advice.

I was told my manure was well rotted but it certainly isnt crumbly, it is a very dark brown colour and has no smell but it is still quite damp and a bit on the sticky side.

Maybe a few months in this box under sheeting and it will be ready for late autumn digging in.

I take it, it is best done on the soil and not have a base/floor ?

Having it on the floor will allow the worms in to do there stuff once it is no longer hot, so yes, putting it on the floor is best.
