hi there all after some info about a month ago now we harvested the garlic off the allotment and the the skin on the garlic was black in places but the cloves them selves looked alright. Now we didnt have this problem last year is it all safe still to eat ?

Same here, just rub off the black stuff, or remove the outermost skin and they are perfectly edible.  You will findthat crops from your land differ slightly from the veggies in the shops.   Bit grubbier, bit deformed, bit soil covered,  BUT TASTING FAR BETTER !    Cheers,   :D  Tony
