You've eliminated the most obvious ones such as in imported compost and from neighbouring plots.

It's not a wind borne pathogen so can't have come in that route.

Have you been onto anyone else's garden or allotment?

My sympathies  :(. I found out today that I've got clubroot and have lost most of my summer brassicas and half of my autumn cabbages, which are just not going to grow any further.
My music teacher was right. If you have to make a mistake, make it good and big and loud; with a bit of luck people will think that it was always meant to be like that.

Don't despair.

Use DD's tip of growing in modules until there is a healthy root system, then planting out.

Gives the plants a fighting chance  :D

Your right sunshineband, i raise practically everything in modules, and i only discovered the clubroot when i was lifting a rather nice caulie out for eating. Think the plants were planted with a good drop of lime in the hole too, i think that may help.

Which brand of bought compost have you been using? Could it have come from there?

I read somewhere that lime helps to reduce the affects of club root and not gowing

on the same spot for I think it said three years.

there is no reason why you cant grow good brassica's as long as you raise them in modules and pot on to establish a good root system,  when planting out dig a hile and sprinkle garden lime before planting
when im with my 9yr old she's the sensible one

There are also club root resistant plants.  Coupled with advice about liming etc plus growing 'Clapton' caulie for example means that not all is lost.
