BOOK
« on: July 27, 2011, 22:26 »
Can anyone suggest a good chicken book.

I want some kind of manual to keep on hand but have no idea what to go for.

I love the advice on the forum but sometimes you need advice there and then.

Hi,
You could try Amazon: there's the 'Chicken Manual' by Laurence Beeken or 'The Right Way to Keep Chickens' by Virginia Shirt. Both have 4.5 stars so perhaps it'll be a question of format or price. Hope this is useful.

a lot of people on here recomend the haynes manual for chickens - not read it myself so can't comment.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Another recommendation for the Haynes Chicken Manual.  Excellent starter book, and just the right depth of information for novices, without being either too patronising or too detailed.

Also excellent section on dispatching and dressing, which is often missing from books :)

I also have the Haynes manual, great book to get you started.
Another book that I have found to be really good is- Raising chickens for eggs and meat by Mike Woolnough.

Yep, I concur, Haynes for me too!   :D

I also have Starting with Chickens by Katie Thear, but the Haynes manual covers a lot more & is very well laid out - I recommended it here when it was first published.
