Feeding veggie waste
« on: September 18, 2007, 11:23 »
Hello all, I know that all potato peelings need boiling before being fed to the chooks, but do carrot peelings? And when you mention mixing them with a mash, do you mean the bran stuff that you can buy from pet shops? And do you have to cook left over cabbage, sprouts, cauli etc?

So many questions, thanks Pete

if its green dont cook it .chop it up small or hang in clumps from string tied up some place ,i dont agree with feeding cooked food but some do and as long as the chucks like it they will be ok " in moderation ".
mash is from poultry suppliers and is a blend of seeds wheat maize etc etc all crushed up .bran is just that oats . not for chicken food i would say , with carrots i would grate them and mix them with the feed .  dont feed processed peas be they garden or marrows as they contain lots of sugar and salt . green giant sweetcorn rinsed is good

.
still alive /............

Thanks Munty, it's great to be able to ask questions, and get replies without being made to seem foolish.

I chucked in a whole ripe pear this morning. They went absolutely crazy for it. It must have lasted about 10 minutes. Anybody would think i was starving them!
