Black Russian toms
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:48 »

Hello, has anyone tried growing the old variety Black Russian toms?
started them from seed and are a nice stocky plant that have set what looks like a small sunflower type flower at the top  :unsure:and also more normal type flowers, non set yet.

Are they just a slow fruiting variety? I have them in a sunny spot in deep bags in the garden, would they have been better inside??

Should I try misting them or what,my other varieties are fruiting and being picked already.

If it the one I think it is! We grew it last year, the tomatoes are a large size, not quite a beef steak tomato. We only got 3 or 4 tomatoes per plant, but they were fantastic especially in a tomato and mozarella salad.

Grew them about 2 years ago and they did the same, they develop into a large tomato which looks like it’s folded into itself. I don’t grow them anymore as I found that they don’t crop very well, and this year going for the black cherry type.

The big flowers usually grow into huge misshaped tomatoes, really weird. But they still taste good :)

Sorry Stevens706, missed your post before I posted mine
