can i use bleach to clean drinkers. also would it stop that horrible scum during hot weather

Yes, just rinse out with fresh water after cleaning. If they are metal drinkers, keep the contact time short or you'll get corrosion.
It won't stop scum forming because that is due to the organics in the water and warm temperatures/sunlight. It's impossible to keep the nutrients out because the chooks wash their beaks when drinking. Putting the drinker in a shaded place should help.

Yes, to avoid the scum keep the water in a shaded place and you could try putting a little apple cider vinegar in the water to keep it fresh for a bit longer.

I am having that problem too and have to clean regular, i give the drinker a clean with cold water with drops of lemon juice and that helps any smells :)

I seem to be doing OK by having smaller drinkers and emptying them every night so they're rinsed every morning before refilling - no green gunge forming as yet!

Mine drink from the watering can, I now have to make sure its topped up, I even went out and bought a new one the other day, its the most expensive water feeder I've ever had to purchase :nowink:
