« on: January 09, 2008, 21:16 »
Just a quick question.. i won't expect an answer till hugh has finished!!!

Should i have left the water in the coop overnight for the hens?
I have left it outside in the run and was going to let them out for it in the morning.]
Thanks in advance

I leave mine outside but then my coop less then 2'x2' so not really much room in there for a drink!

How big is your coop?

Mine's outside too, they seem to manage ok without water all night - I hadn't even thought about it before.

If they are living "naturally" they would roost in trees.  Not much water up there

My poor hens have never cottoned on to the art of perching - how would they survive in the wild? :( DON'T ANSWER THAT!!

You put them on the perch and they fall off

I have hanging drinkers in my house but I don't let them out till about 8am so they are awake for a while before I let them out.

I tend to wait till a bit later as they are more likely to lay in the nestbox than all over the garden :?
