I love them, but i'm getting  bit bored now..............any ideas? Have them cold in salad (just cooked) and bung them in stir fry or as a side veg, but is there anything else I can do with them (bearing in mind I don't have a kitchen for 3 weeks and have a barbecue and 1 gas burner :( )

I know you cant start making chutney with the facilities you have at the moment but just wondering if they would make a mangetout chutney similar to runner bean chutney.
Or even replace the runner beans in sweetcorn and runner bean relish which is out of this world in the depths of winter with cold turkey.

Please not how i got round saying the C word  :D

Let 'em grow to full size, dry 'em off and store 'em,  makes great mushy peas.   :tongue2:  Cheers,   Tony.

Here you go cheshirecheese  :)

There are lots of recipes about for this or similar but this is the one I make and I never seem to make enough  ::)

6 medium corn cobs
2 teasp plain flour
2 teasp dry mustard
half teasp turmeric
1pt white vinegar
2 teasp salt
4oz sugar
2 onions, peeled and chopped
2 small-med red peppers, seeded and chopped
1lb runner beans, sliced and cut into 1inch pieces

Cook cobs in boiling water 3mins then plunge into cold water.  Cut kernels from cobs.
Make a paste with the flour, mustard, turmeric and 2 tabsp vinegar.
Heat rest of vinegar with salt and sugar, then stir  the paste into hot vinegar.  Add chopped onions, peppers, beans and sweetcorn to vinegar.  Simmer 20 mins for crisp veg, 30 mins for tender.  I do 25mins. Stir occasionally.
Pot into hot clean jars
Absolutely gorgeous

Thanks Spana, sorry been a bit busy decorating before fitters arrive 2morrow. If any survive 2 weeks from now I'll give it a go. I'm going to plant some more today in the hopes of a 2nd crop, fingers crossed!
