OK - I know it's early yet, this will not win any exhibitions, it has forked a bit, it bears the scars of trying to extract it from the ground and Munty's are probably bigger. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to dig one up.

The wine bottle is a full size one - not one of these third bottle jobbies, the thing itself weighed 5lb 3oz. I was reasonably pleased with it.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've never tried transplanting a half-grown parsnip Digger - be sure and post another picture when it is fully grown.

Seriously though - nice one.  Give it the "artificial frost" treatment in the freezer before eating.

Mmmm roasted with some honey drizzled over.

I have 7 parsnips that germinated out of 3 rows so fingers crossed they turn out decent.

I like 'em roasted as well, but this one's gone in a casserole, well at least part of it!.

The rest of it I'm going to cook, mash down & freeze for later use, as we don't have any 'parsnip friendly' meals planned for the next few days.

To get it out I had to dig a hole down one side of it & pull it sideways. I knew from the kick off that if I tried to use a fork it would just go straight through it.

I've had good germination with my parsnips but I have the feeling they will be the size of carrots  :(
