(Casseille) bush.

I quite fancy the look of it in the Autumn brochure and wondered if anybody else is growing one, and tell me what they think of it  ;)

It is quite a vigorous fruit bush, also known as a Jostaberry (mine is over 6 feet tall) and it will therefore need quite a lot of room unless you prune it quite severely every year.  If you know anyone with one then get cuttings or get branches that have rooted where they touch the ground.  The fruit is pretty good and much easier to pick than blackcurrants.

Interesting that cos in my brochure Jostaberry and Caseille are two different things

They say Jostaberry for pies and jam, and Caseille to eat raw ..
just different varieties from the same cross, I suppose  ???

I eat my jostaberrys raw, not unlike a tart gooseberry but not enough to make you go

Lovely fruit, ive had mine for three years and always get a lovely helping each year  :)

ETA: Also not had a problem with sawfly even though they stripped a gooseberry that was quite close by

Maybe Caseille is a cross with a dessert gooseberry like Pax so it's sweeter   Might be a bit later to ripen, but I've got a Pax gooseberry and it gets really sweet and is very nice raw  :)

Ummm... カッス /Cassis, not sure if we talking about same plant, i've got couple days ago. Ummm maybe yes, wiki think so. It's a good one, you also can make tea with fresh leaves, not only berries. Last year i travelled little bit in the far east of Russia and locals introduced me how to make "far east tea". Not sure same or similar plant, but definately same family

Glad to hear josta berries are worth growing.

I had one for a Christmas present and there were no flowers this year. It is about five feet tall already.

I shall look forward to next year's crop now  :D :D

Casseille is a cross between blackcurrant Giant Boskoop and a gooseberry

which may make it sweeter
