To give up or not to give up?
« on: June 10, 2011, 18:31 »
3 years ago myself and my partner made some raised beds and I started growing my own. I loved it and it became a huge part of my life. Unfortunately I had to leave the garden when I moved out of the flat. My partner still lives there (although it flooded over Christmas so he's not technically living there just now!) When I moved out I decided that I would continue gardening there as I'd worked really hard and it would be a shame to leave the beds empty. It turns out that this is just not realistic, I live 45 min drive away and I just don't seem to get any time to go over there. I used to nip out whenever I had a few spare minutes to check things over over do small jobs. Now I'm lucky if I can get there once every two weeks.
I think I am coming to the decision that I might have to leave it. It's a big shame as I still have lots of veg and flower plants to go in the ground and there are things already planted (looking very sad).
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? I only have space for window boxes here and it just doesn't satisfy me! I actually feel quite emotional about giving it up, although I'm sure at some point in the future I will have a garden and can start again.

Yes I have! Long waiting list here in Edinburgh, been on it for 2 years already.
I might look into community gardens and perhaps volunteer there, not the same as having your own project but might be good to share with other gardening lovers!

Any elderly people with untidy gardens near you? They might be happy for you to use them to keep them tidy. You would have to be careful not to fall out though or you would be back to square one!

Yes that's a good idea, I know of a few neighbours, although they look like they are on top of things!
Why would I fall out with them?
