One for Joyfull! and anyone else! lol
« on: June 02, 2011, 17:46 »
We have been hatching some sablepoot eggs for Joy as she ran out of broody's!  And one of them had bad double straddled legs, so copying some little hobbles that Joy had got, I used a piece of plastic straw cut up and a small elastic band, which the little one has been wearing for just over a day.

She was hobbling around a bit, but the bigger chicks kept pushing her over onto her back.  anyway, today the other chicks have gone out to the brooder shed, so as she is on her own in my brooder box at the moment, I took the hobble off to see how she is doing.

She is running around like a good un!  Still sitting a lot, so her muscles are probably still weak, but look at this!   :D :D :D

never thought about them being like hobbits , I will have to dig out my copy of the hobbit (my favourite book) and get some names for the other hobbit poots - the lone silver millefleur one will have to be Bilbo Baggins  :D

I don't allow my hens access to the PC anymore after a couple of them ran up a huge bill on Ebay bidding on an Eglu!

lovely pics  :D
How about Arwen, Galadriel, Rosie, Eowyn or Elanor (For girls); or Bilbo, Frodo, Pippin or Merry (for boys)
These are all names from The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings

Here is little Hobble on the left with the last 3 sablepoot hatchlings.  Don't they look tiny up against her(him)?  They had pipped a bit, but hadn't got any further, so I just carefully broke open the rest of the pippings, but left them to see if they were strong enough to push the eggshell off themselves.

They did and are doing fine!

and all 10 are now happily snuggled up under their new foster mum who lost her chicks to Dannii the other broody. Their new foster mum was very good she talked to them and lay down next to them taking her time. All the baby poots were frightened of this new big chicken but she moved them one by one using her beak and got them under her  :D
Fingers crossed none got squashed in this process.
