Either pigeons, jackdaws or pheasants. On my allotment broad beans need to have a net or other barrier round them to stop them being eaten.

Attacks are usually a couple of days before you were going to pick them.

Pheasants eh Salmo?

Hmmm...

The coven of pheasants we have had better watch out now - thanks for the warning, my broad beans are at beak-height...

Is there a recipe for pheasant stuffed with broad bean?  ;)

...er Salmo, do you mean before they get going at the plot or afterwards...?

If any are left, try raking the soil either side and see what footprints are there when it next happens.
