Hi All is it possible to sex day old Welsumer chicks?

It is supposed to be, this is what Backyardchickens says:

"Sexing Welsummer chicks: pullets (hens) will have a very defined V shape on their heads and eyeliner. Cockerels (roosters) have a smudged looking V and no eyeliner."

But as Joyfull will tell you, I hatched some Welsummers for her and we were both convinced they were both girls, but they both turned out to be boys!

But then I hatched 3 welly eggs given to me by Animalmad, and I said from early I had a boy and 2 girls, and that's what they were!

i sex all asoon as theve hatched, look at the foot, if the left and right toe are identical its a hen if its one bigger than the other its a cock, hope this helps

Oooo, bossy boots, now That Is Interesting, I've never come across that way of sexing chicks. Do you apply this rule to all chicks or only Welsummers?

I agree with GrannieAnnie. I have two Welsumer chicks and went by the "triangle" method, which meant I had one girl and one boy, but as they have got older (6 weeks now), the chick with the more defined triangle has developed a far larger comb than the other "fuzzy" triangle, so I'm assuming that it's the boy not the other one! I'm interested in sexing by toes and I'll have a look later to see if it bears out.
