I know Dave has had good results from late planted maincrop so I think second earlies would be fine.

But if you're just planting a few tubers in patio pots then the sooner your munching on your delicious potstoes the better :)

Last year I didn't get any in until late May. Best crop I've ever had.

They may have been late, but I was eating new spuds when everyone else was having mash! Had some whopping lates as well.

For different reasons I'm late again this year and only finished spud planting a couple of days ago, so keeping fingers crossed!

I had bought the seed spuds earlier in the year, so was planting the ones of my choice, but buying this time of year is going to be very hit & miss.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I might give later second earlies a go next year, by the sounds of it there has been some success. Might even be adventurous and do my first earliest at usual time and seconds a bit later so, as you say DD, I get new pots when they are otherwise general finished.

I love this forum - always full of good ideas and tips! thanks!

How much? you would need to harvest a huge amount from those pot's to cover the cost.

Thank you Gandan, my experiment just got a little more do-able.

Yes SS they are £££ but i dont have an allotment just a small garden.  These pots last for years and if I buy them it would mean that I could use a  space that is currently unusable for much except a few pots of salad leaves.

My husband would probably agree with SS and just put old bags full of spuds there but it is right next to where I have spent so much time constructing a number of raised beds and right next to the front door!

VAT and delivery for the 60L one brings it up from £5.52 to £11.47.

The 45L Airpots are  £59.95 for 5 - no delivery charge

Anya are often the ones sold as salad potatoes in supermarkets.

Like Pink Fir Apple  but without the nobbly bits.

I have got 5 of the 50L from Harrod Horticulture for £39.95 + £4.95 pp (but I was ordering some other stuff as well)

These are the ones for a patio; they have a base.

My original question was 'Has anyone used airpots?'.

I guess that no one has. Mine are now arriving Wednesday. I will pot them up with 3 tubers apiece and let you know how it goes.

Is any one else going to give them a go?
