Sprouting broccoli
« on: May 10, 2011, 19:45 »
I have a load of sprouting broccoli seedlings that have shot up in a seed tray, but i am not sure where to plant them out as i am running out of space.
I could put them in large pots or a sunnhy section of a flower bed but i am not sure if they would like too much sun.

Any ideas?
Love me, love my veggies

i would try potting them on into bigger pots. keep doing this until you have some space, im putting mine into the pea beds after they are harvested

Good idea

As you can tell i am very new to veg growing so ask daft questions  ;)

I am worried that if i put them in bigger pots how long i leave them in them before i can plant out. Not sure how fast this stuff grows

theres never a dull question with veg growing, its all down to sharing experiences. when the plants are in a pot just check the holes in the bottom. when you see lots of white roots put them in to a bigger pot until you have space on the plot to plant them. my neighbour left autumn brassicas in pots until he harvested them. theres no rush as you can pot them on to maturity.

I've done the same in the past.... pot on and let them get on with it minding the cabbage-white fluttery things and slugs don't get them.

They will be there if / when you get round to planting them out if/when there's space. Better to have a few standby plants to make use of than wish you'd kept them later.  ;)
