Brassica plants??
« on: May 01, 2011, 19:57 »
I am growing brassica plants from seed for the first time this year having just got my allotment a month or so back. The attached image shows my Calibrase, Cabbage and Cauliflower plants.

They are starting to get very floppy and I was wondering if this is normal or should I be potting them on??? Any advice would be useful..

Cheers

Harden them off (if they need it) and plant them out.

When you plant them out you can remove the seed leaves  and plant them deeper so the growing point is just above the surface. Also remember to firm them in well.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

My cabbages and sprouts always go floppy like that... i just plant them deeper when putting them into the soil. :)

They look fine to me.

When you plant them out make a hole with a dibber or trowel, fill it with water and let it soak in before placing the plant in it. Water again, firm with the side of you#r foot and net against pigeons or better still cover with a finer mesh to keep smaller flying pests off.

Good luck.  ;)
