digging up the remainder of my spuds, (some of which were rather rotten) due to blight I presume. I pulled one out which had the most digusting creamy coloured mucussy gunk hanging of it; sorry to be gross but it was like a huge amount of snot  YUK!!! it didn't look like part of the potato but was stuck to it, any ideas? sorry couldn't take a pic; my cameras packed up

Was it the remains of the original seed potato?

I don't think so; it didn't look like the other seed potatoes; too clean looking if that makes sense  :?

Just more rotted than the others - you can usually tell blight from the smell as much as anything.

So the potato itself wasn't rotted but this stuff was stuck to it??  Could it have been the remains of another tuber which had rotted adjacent to it?

it really didn't look like anything rotten, it's really hard to explain but I'll try; you know if you clear your throat of phlegm? what you bring up? well it sort of looked like that but there was lots. I'm not explaining this very well am I ?, it was white/cremish sort of colour and I've dug up a lot of spuds this year, rotten and otherwise and not one of them even closely resembled this

Okay.  My line of questioning was to see if it might be Soft Rot (in an adjacent tuber).  Did it stink bad?

Soft rotted potato flesh appears wet, cream to tan in colour with a soft, slightly granular appearance. There is also a definite break between healthy and infected tissue. It is usually odourless unless other decay organisms have already set in.
