onion sets disaster or not

i have discovered our onion sets were planted in very compacted soil will this be an issue for growth,my kids ran all over it while soil was damp while planting and its flat as a pancake :unsure:

I was always under the impression onions liked 'soft' loose soil. Then I read in some article or other that they prefer firm soil.

Mind you , compacted could be just a bit on the 'too firm' side. I'd leave them be though. As MoS says, they'll let you know.
