can chickens have nose bleeds ???
« on: March 12, 2011, 16:14 »
one of my banties had a blooming nose this morning. No other signs of illness although has been abit quiter than usual today, but is eating and drinking ok. I noticed blood on the feeder this morning and on the side of the door where they come in and out. She had dribbles of dried blood down her breast and dried blood around one nostril. All the others with her are fine and they have been together for a year so can't imagine she's been bullied.....  Any ideas ??????

There are some really vicious pecks to the head delivered while roosting especially if the boss remembers some upstart nicking a worm off her earlier.
I have CCTV in the coop so can see who does what to who even after years together.
I am quite suprised there is not more blood about in the morning.

Could she have flown into the door? One of my Vorwerks managed to break her neck doing just that trying to get out of the way of my cockerel.

One of my broodys suffered from nose bleeds last summer but stopped as suddenly as it started, not sure what started it off but she showed no other signs and was happy enough :) and never suffered any since.

Do you know if there were any loud/unexpected noises or disturbances?  When there is a dog in our garden, some of ours get little nosebleeds- not from jumping, just from stress I think. They are fine the next day, and preen the blood off.  (And I've had no problems from the others with the blood.)  Good Luck  :)
