My owl on a stick deterrent worked for about ten minutes.  ::)

I wonder if 6 would work for an hour? Not good value..... :(

When I first impaled him on his stick the birds swerved as soon as they saw him.  After a day they ignored him.  I knew he was due for retirement when I saw a jackdaw perched on his head. ::)

How about a visual deterent?

They have several of these on the roof of the Discovery Centre in Dover and it stops neither pigeons nor seagulls

Rubber snakes will keep seagulls off a boat if their position is moved every couple of days.
I thought about a mini alarm gun with a tripwire and toy gun caps,
first i`ve got to find a non PC small boy to steal some from. ;)

I'm going to get some toy snakes. They will be easy to move about each time I walk past them, and nephew will have fun doing it too. Will let you know how i get on but i will need to get some first - till then, short bits of hosepipe will do....

Debris netting also.

CD's are as much use as a chocolate tea pot.  Tried them once, pigeons had their lunch when I went for mine.

I never understand why people use Cd's as a deterrent because people are advised to hang them in chicken runs for the birds to peck at to relieve boredom, so as pigeons and chickens are related (albeit distantly) I would have thought they would like the Cd's so you could be encouraging them to your allotment

Its weird actually, but on our allotment, we have a chap who keeps racing pigeons, and the pigeons have never ever gone on to anyone's plot, in fact no one on our allotment has problems at all.

But my scarer would be to take my Mainecoon cat, Merlin, put him on a very long lead, and let him keep the pigeons away :D.  He's already decimiated the mice population of our area of Denton (including a rat and a magpie)  8)

He could do with putting on a bit of weight - at the moment, he weighs in at 17lbs, and for a male, that's not too bad, but he could do with anothe 4lbs or 5lbs. :D
