Its weird actually, but on our allotment, we have a chap who keeps racing pigeons, and the pigeons have never ever gone on to anyone's plot, in fact no one on our allotment has problems at all.

But my scarer would be to take my Mainecoon cat, Merlin, put him on a very long lead, and let him keep the pigeons away :D.  He's already decimiated the mice population of our area of Denton (including a rat and a magpie)  8)

He could do with putting on a bit of weight - at the moment, he weighs in at 17lbs, and for a male, that's not too bad, but he could do with anothe 4lbs or 5lbs. :D

Woodpigeon would quite happily eat racing pigeon food all year given the chance but have to make do with what nature , farmers and allotmenteers provide month by month.
Town pigeon and feral racers do not have the big appetite for greenstuff that woodpigeon have, they may have a peck around on grass or clover but most full grown garden veg is safe.

My 6yr old annoying child seems to scare the pigeons near us. He runs around like a nutter, they just stay up in the trees in safety

Gone are the days when 6 year olds were clodhopping or bird scaring for a crust of bread.

Shame you can`t hire him out. :D

Our son scared everything.......and several everyones...hell's teeth could he yell. Then...eventually he grew up and up and up. Now at 6'5" he's so gentle I'm not sure even pigeons would move much.

I have never seen collared doves eat any veg in the garden and we have (far too) many here.
They always seem to concentrate on the bare ground between the rows probably eating weed seed. :)
I have never seen them on the brassica tops in hard weather either it is always woodpigeon , perhaps the collared doves get fed too well on the bird tables locally.
