Im trying Tadorna this year as Musselburgh have been a constant disappointment.

I've got a few lengths of white 42mm waste pipe left over I was wandering if people have tried using this to blanch rather than / as well as dibbing a 6inch hole.  Im sure I've seen it done somewhere...

If I have to plant my leeks in the raised beds I dib them in at first, but as the soil settles during the year I then add toilet roll tubes to make sure they blanch enough.
So the pipe would serve the same purpose

42mm is about inch and three quarters -- seems a bit narrow, show growers tend to use clay land drains at about 4 inch diameter. Still worth an experiement - lets us know how you get on please

If you dib them in I think it unlikely the "tops" will get to that diameter? (I'll be envious if they do!)

White could be a problem, want it reflect light down the inside of the tube as the leek is growing?
I use 50mm cardboard tubes a friend gets from large rolls of paper used in his drawing office. These have to be cut off the leeks most of the time so you would have to pick your leeks early.
Best of all are 100mm black plastic tubes but only have about 20 of these.

My mistake its 40 not 42mm  Old age you see.

It was the light business that concerned me, I have no doubt that my leeks will be no where near 40mm. If they can muster more than an inch Id be happy.

Nobody has any worries over condensation / mold or anything else like that then ?
