hatching attempt number 2
« on: February 21, 2011, 18:03 »
Hi i am attempting hatch number 2 and going to pick my eggs up tomorrow, as they are not being posted i`m wondering if they still need to be rested before putting in the incubator?
How easy is it to candle Maran eggs?
thanks

Good luck with your hatching, we are half way through a hatch out of 42 eggs I am down to 28 and I am not sure about the moran eggs as the shell is so dark I cant see anything so I am going to re candle them tomorrow.

I dont bother resting the eggs other than to let them come back up to room temperature.... unless they get a rough ride home in your car :)

Maran will be difficult to candle unless you have a high lume lamp....  but maybe its just as well to trust the eggs if you know they are usually ok and leave them to develop unhindered :)

Better luck with this lot.... hope you got it worked out as to what went wrong last time :)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

Hi :)  If you are picking them up in the evening I would let them rest overnight to make sure they are OK before putting them in the incy first thing in the morning.

Marans eggs are difficult to candle.  I've just bought an 800 lume pen light specifically for this, and I can just about see enough to tell clear from viable - but I still can't see any great detail.

having said that, unless you are really stuck for space, it is HIGHLY unlikely an egg will explode after 25 days, even if it is unfertile, so I would probably just leave the whole lot in to be on the safe side!
