Im planning on getting a 5x3ft shed next week to convert for my girls, and my run is 21ft x 7.5ft. How many hens can i keep in there? They are able to free range 4 days a week but the rest of the time will be in the run most of the day.
I have 6 now but really want to get more. Or would i be better getting a 6 x4 shed?

Is the shed inside the run or attached? Will it have internal or external nesting boxes? The size of your run will be the deciding factor for the amount of hens especially as they will be confined to the run for long periods Assuming that the shed is not in the run then if you allow two square yards of run space per bird (the minimum is 1 square meter but we would advise at least double) then you have enough for a maximum of 8 birds - all of which will fit into the smaller shed. Thanks Joyfull. The shed will be external, with internal nest boxes. I might just stick with the 6 then and give them even more room, unless i can talk my otherhalf into extending the run ( which at the moment is unlikely as he only did that one a week ago  )

give him time and I'm sure you'll be able to talk him round, either that or start building an extension yourself
