Im planning to get some chickens in the near future, which will mainly be free range when there is someone around 2 keep a beady eye on them. The question is, the run that I am thinking of getting (which they will be in when we're not aound) has fox proof mesh to the top and sides of it, and nothing underneath.
If a fox wanted 2 get in, it could easily just dig under so the obvious solution is 2 fix some fox proof mest to the underside as well, but wouldn't this hinder their ability to scratch around in the run? Any other solutions?

I buried paving slabs around my run.  I've also read on here of people burying wire mesh around the outside.

That is an option, but I did quite want 2 move my run around occasionally.I will have 2 compromise

if you don't want to dig mesh into the ground you can fix a skirt of wire onto the bottom at right angles to the run sides (this is what omlett do with their runs), if you make it about 8 inches wide and peg it down (you can fix it using tie wraps) it should make it dig proof.
