How long can an incy be off?
« on: February 20, 2011, 08:40 »
Came down this morning to find the socket circuit had tripped out overnight so the incy was stone cold  :(

How long can eggs be cold for before they are useless?  They were stone cold when I got to them.

Advice please?

I have had a broody accidently locked out the coop for about 4 - 6 hours and over half hatched, so worth still trying - what have you got to lose?

How many days til hatching Min?

The eggs only went in on Thursday.  They were stone cold when I found them this morning.  Ive candeled them this morning and will check again in a few days or so to see which are developing onwards but wondered if anyone else had had this problem?

Joyfull that sounds positive.  I will leave them for a while longer yet.

Oh noooo..... are these my eggies :(

Obviously you have nothing to lose by getting them going again..... I have done this at 10 days and the eggs were fine... I turned it off to candle last thing at night and didnt notice till next morning .... all the eggs continued to develop but didnt hatch coz the incubator was one of those dodo polybox jobs off of ebay and the humidity was rubbish....

If they only went in on Thurs... then I recon they will be ok..... how cold is stone cold... indoors or shed etc....

Heat them up again and wait till day 10 to fiddle with them..... if they were my eggs then they were all from normally good strong hatchers (serama may have been a problem so good job that there were none in there).  They need some extra tlc now so dont fiddle around with them .... give them a chance to settle again.... you may lose some but not all I bet :)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

What a bummer :(  I bet though that they will carry on developing.... just add another day or two on to their due date if they do seem to survive :)

You maybe lucky but I wouldn't hold my breath.  To be stone cold suggests they had tripped out a good while assuming your inccy had insulation.  To be honest I'd suggest they should be in a stable temperature rather than one which varies a lot day to night.  Thermostats and heaters are not perfect.

What incubator model was it?

I let my broody out for food and toilet, then locked her back in (or so I thought) before going to work.
Nine hours later, stone cold eggs, coz I had locked her out, probably two weeks into the incubation
I was going to throw the eggs away, but gave them a chance.
2 out of the 5 hatched.
